Practice field project days #210-225 - Be sure to follow the updates on our social media accounts, website, and app! A reminder from our last post: ➡️ GOOD NEWS - Elford Inc. was able to secure a new subcontractor quickly, and they were able to mobilize onsite last week. We are excited that Surgent Construction has joined the team. ➡️ What happens now? A third party inspection has to be completed in order for Surgent to warranty the steel work. This is a typical process and is a requirement for the warranty. Over the next couple of weeks, you'll see a lot of people and equipment onsite. If you live in the area, you may have even seen a group of team members working in the snow last Friday taking hundreds of pictures. Part of the inspection requires them to inspect every piece of steel, bolt, etc., which means that you will see steel coming down just to be put back up. Again, the inspection process is only expected to take a couple of weeks. Then, Surgent will move forward with placing the rest of the steel for the building. New update: ➡️ The black fencing around the area is being placed, and once the handrail is in place on the retaining wall, the construction fence will be removed from the field area and left up only around the building site. ➡️ The inspection process has been completed. Much work has occurred over the last few weeks, but sadly when people don't physically see it, assumptions are made that nothing is happening. Our district appreciates the hard work of everyone involved as they have worked diligently to resolve a tough situation. 😊 ➡️ Finally, steel that had been placed and was being held by a temporary brace before additional steel was added was removed along with the brace yesterday afternoon due to the weather that was expected Friday evening. This action was taken as a safety measure. ➡️ As always stated in our posts and various communications, we welcome questions. Information from the February 16, 2024 all-call: School will not be in session on Monday, February 19, in observance of Presidents’ Day. Also, we notified families this week that school will not be in session on Monday, April 8 due to the solar eclipse. Finally, preschool and kindergarten registration dates have been set for this spring. Kindergarten registration will occur on April 16 at Greenfield Elementary, April 17 at Buckskin Elementary, and April 18 at Rainsboro Elementary. Preschool registration will occur on April 23 at Greenfield Elementary and April 24 at Rainsboro Elementary. Specific details regarding registration were emailed to families and can also be found on our website and social media accounts. Have a good evening!

Mark your calendars!!! APRIL 2, 2024 - OUR PRESCHOOL APPLICATION PROCESS OPENS FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR. The deadline to complete the process is May 15, 2024. All forms must be signed and all required documents uploaded by the deadline in order to be considered for the program. Directions on how to register will be made available on our district website and social media accounts on April 2. You can also contact our Special Programs Department at 937-981-4856 to be added to an email distribution list in order to receive the directions via email on April 2. *Parents and guardians of current preschoolers who will be in preschool again next year are already on the email distribution list. IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL NEW GEVSD 2024-2025 KINDERGARTEN APPLICANTS: Kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year will open online on Tuesday, April 2, 2024!! We are very excited to announce that the Greenfield Exempted Village School District has again partnered with FinalForms, which allows you to sign and complete all kindergarten enrollment forms for the 2024-2025 school year and upload ALL required documents to your student’s individual document folder. Directions on how to register will be made available on our district website and social media accounts on April 2. You can also contact the school office where your child will attend in order to be added to an email distribution list to receive the directions via email on April 2. Please remember, that your child must turn five years old prior to August 1, 2024, to be eligible for kindergarten registration. As part of the registration process, Greenfield Exempted Village School District will hold in-person testing events at our three elementary locations. Your child’s participation at your school’s testing event is mandatory. February 13, 2024 Dear Families, For the first time since 1806, Ohio will be the site of a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. While many portions of the state will have the opportunity to experience totality, even those outside the path of totality will see 95% or more of the sun eclipsed. The entire eclipse process takes place over several hours on the afternoon of Monday, April 8, with a short totality in the middle of the event. This rare astronomical event presents an opportunity for families and staff members to travel within our own state to observe the total eclipse in person. While considering the fact that we would have to adjust our dismissal times for students, and the fact that this presents a great experience for families, we have decided that we will not be in session on Monday, April 8, 2024. We encourage students and families to take this opportunity to observe the total eclipse safely. Partial phases of any solar eclipse can only be safely viewed with specialized eye protection. Teachers will be sharing information about the solar eclipse in advance of April 8, and you can also find information provided by the Department of Education and Workforce at: education.ohio.gov/Topics/Learning-in-Ohio/Science/Resources-for-Science/2024-Solar-Eclipse We apologize for any inconvenience the April 8 closure may cause. January is School Board Appreciation Month! Recently our Board members were asked to answer some Would You Rather questions. Today we are recognizing Mr. Eric Wise. Check out his answers below! 1. Would you rather have the ability to read minds or become invisible at will? Be invisible at will. I would be able to see the true ways people act sometimes or be able to escape some situations. 2. Would you rather be the funniest person in the room or the most intelligent? Funniest. Laughter can change any bad mood. Laughter is the best medicine. 3. Would you rather have an unlimited supply of books or an unlimited supply of music? Music. Music has such variety. Whether you’re happy, mad, sad, or need pumped up. There are so many genres/styles that can help your mood, which may change your or someone else’s day. 4. Would you rather be able to control the weather or talk to animals? Control the weather. Sunny, low humidity, and 75-85 with a little rain every other night between the hours of 10-2 sounds perfect to me. 5. Would you rather be an Olympic athlete or the President for a day? Olympic athlete. A chance to represent the greatest country in the world and the red, white, and blue would be awesome. 6. Would you rather have to write using only your non-dominant hand or only be able to walk backward? Non-dominant hand writing. I write very little anymore. Mostly typing. 7. Would you rather go on an adventure with Indiana Jones or Harry Potter? Neither. That kind of excitement at my age would be too much. 8. Would you rather stay up late or get up early? Depends on what the situation is. I don’t mind staying up late with friends and having a good time. I like to get up early and get things done as well. 9. Would you rather have one arm replaced with a tentacle or a lobster claw (assuming that there is no option to keep the one arm)? Tentacle. It would be pretty handy to reach for something out of reach and just stick. 10. Would you rather never eat ice cream again or never eat cake again? Never eat cake. This information was directly communicated to us by our contractor, Elford Inc., who has already established a process for securing a replacement subcontractor to complete the work. Elford provides payment to subcontractors for work completed. Our district and Elford are not involved with how a subcontractor pays their employees. ➡️ GOOD NEWS - Elford Inc. was able to secure a new subcontractor quickly, and they were able to mobilize onsite last week. 🎉 We are excited that Surgent Construction has joined the team. ➡️ What happens now? January is School Board Appreciation Month! Recently our Board members were asked to answer some Would You Rather questions. Today we are recognizing Mrs. Marilyn Mitchell. Check out her answers below! 1. Would you rather have the ability to read minds or become invisible at will? I would rather be a mind reader than become invisible at will. By reading minds, I would really know people. I would know what people really think and be able to get the whole picture. 2. Would you rather be the funniest person in the room or the most intelligent? Being a leader, I would prefer to be the most intelligent person in the room. On the other hand, I love a social gathering and do tell a joke or two. Can I divide this and be both? 3. Would you rather have an unlimited supply of books or an unlimited supply of music? I would rather have an unlimited supply of music over an unlimited supply of books. I grew up with both. I always won the summer reading club when I was a child. From that age, I went on to music. I love to listen to all sorts of music. I am a happy mix of both. I love embracing my grandchildren with songs from long ago. All 8 of them know my favorite ditties. 4. Would you rather be able to control the weather or talk to animals? I would rather be able to talk to animals than be able to control the weather. I am not an animal lover but I'm married to an animal lover. I think that if I could converse with animals I would soon love them. I like the seasonal changes we have in Ohio, never knowing for sure what the weather is going to be. 5. Would you rather be an Olympic athlete or the President for a day? If given the choice I would rather be an Olympic athlete than the President for one day. I cannot begin to imagine what all the President has to do every day. As an Olympic athlete, I would try to impress upon students the value of training and goal setting no matter what the sport. 6. Would you rather have to write using only your non-dominant hand or only be able to walk backward? I would rather write with my non-dominant hand than to have to walk backward. I do a lot of writing and would prefer to write using my left hand in opposition to walking backward. I think it would be hard to keep your balance walking backward. 7. Would you rather go on an adventure with Indiana Jones or Harry Potter? I would rather go on an adventure with Harry Potter instead of Indiana Jones. Both are pretty unrealistic. I have read the first Harry Potter book. My grandson bought it for me. He has read all of them. I can visualize myself getting into some of the mishaps that Harry gets into. 8. Would you rather stay up late or get up early? I would rather get up early than stay up late. I am a list person. I like to get up and get my list accomplished. I believe in goal setting. I love life and live each day to the fullest. Having eight grandchildren there is always a ballgame or concert to attend. I am their biggest fan. 9. Would you rather have one arm replaced with a tentacle or a lobster claw (assuming that there is no option to keep the one arm)? I would rather have one arm replaced with a tentacle instead of a lobster claw. I would want my arm to be able to move freely and be able to pick up small objects. Please do not let this ever happen! 10. Would you rather never eat ice cream again or never eat cake again? I would rather never eat ice cream again than never eat cake again. I do not do dairy very well so this was an easy question. I love to bake and can't imagine not being able to have strawberry shortcake, German chocolate cake, or carrot cake.
