Thank you to the middle school staff members who came out and supported our seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams tonight!
Mrs. Shrout's math Success class played either Fractions Wild (similar to UNO) or Multiplication Fact War with playing cards. It got very competitive, but we had fun with fractions and multiplication facts.
Ms Thieman's classes practiced labeling the different parts of a coordinate grid.

Homecoming Spirit Week is next week! Please encourage your child to participate!
Ms. Collier's students participated in a couple of activities this week to practice their communication skills and their ability to assess work and leave feedback. The jigsaw and round table discussion had them reading different articles about conflict and then sharing their findings with a couple of peers. Students practiced their verbal communication skills and "listening to understand." Later, they participated in a walking review to assess other student's written responses and provide productive feedback. It's been a great start to our year!
"Roll & Highlight: A Dice-Driven Dive into Passages"📢 Attention all! In Mrs. Black's class, students are diving deep into the passage "Let ‘Em’ Play God" using a unique approach. Working collaboratively in groups, they're rolling dice that feature a range of scaffolded questions, guiding them to thoughtfully annotate the text. This innovative method is sparking new insights and fostering deeper understanding. Way to go, students! 🎲📖
September 1, 2023 4:15 p.m. all-call:
Please see below for a few updates.
1. Thank you for your cooperation and patience during our implementation of the Raptor Visitor Management System. Things have been going very smoothly. Please remember to bring your state I.D. or driver’s license with you to the school office the first time that you are signing your child out or visiting the building. Also, remember that if you have children in multiple buildings, you will need to repeat the process in each building. Again, thank you for your support.
2. The percentage of our students whose documentation is completed in FinalForms is now 93%! Please make sure that if you have not completed the forms, you do so as soon as possible. Make sure to keep your contact information (phone numbers and email addresses) current so that you don’t miss important information that is shared throughout the year.
3. Be sure to complete the free and reduced lunch form as soon as possible. Any form that was approved last school year is only good for this school year through September 30. This year, all students who qualify for a reduced-price lunch receive a free lunch! You can find the form on our website by clicking the dining tab. You will then see it on the left-hand side.
We will be closed next week due to the Highland County Fair. School will resume for students on Monday, September 11.
Have a good evening! 😊

Throughout this week, students delved into the intricate realm of laboratory safety while also getting a glimpse of animal outbreaks. The classes embarked on a creative journey that resulted in the formation of unique "cup cows," each possessing its own distinct identity - from traditional beef to dairy, from minecraft to football players, and even from Barbie to Ken!
The outbreak journey began by teaching students with essential knowledge about safety protocols, sanitation practices, and the proper utilization of supplies.
As the week progressed, the culmination of knowledge and creativity reached its peak with an imaginative project. Students crafted their own fantasy herds of grazing cattle. In this experiment, a simulated outbreak scenario unfolded, where one animal within each unique herd was afflicted by an illness. The practical exercise allowed students to witness firsthand the rapidity with which an outbreak can potentially spread if proper precautions are not diligently observed within a laboratory setting.
Beyond the scientific exploration, this exercise offered students a rare opportunity to engage in the captivating process of learning about livestock sickness prevention. By actively participating in the experiment, they gained a profound appreciation for the significance of meticulous care and vigilant practices in averting the escalation of animal diseases.
Mrs. Penwell's ELA classes reviewed the story we've been working on by completing several tasks through a break-out activity. They had great discussions about their responses and found ways to work together to break each code.
Students were working hard during their measurement lab in Mr. Pritchard's class. The students were measuring various objects in the classroom and converting metric units.
Eighth grade students in Mrs. Smith's math class participated in a "Human Knot" during the first week of school!
This week in Mrs. Guthrie's ag classes, we learned how agriculture is connected to everything, and how even a piglet can change the world.
Students started the week learning about the relevance of agriculture in their classes, with mini-lessons about their courses overall. After that, students had the opportunity to explore the diversity of food, plants, and animals within the United States. To celebrate the start of the school year, a speaker shared their story of how they can impact agriculture even with just four legs.
Piglets have a significant impact on agriculture: they provide food, enrich soil, generate biogas, offer medicine and medical advances, and contribute to the sustainability of local, state, and national locations around the globe. They're an integral part of traditions, innovations, and ecological balance. Small but transformative, piglets show how agriculture's footprint changes the world.
"Small snout, big ideas. Embrace your inner piglet, and change the world."
* We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hurtt Show Pigs for allowing our program to showcase one of your Hampshire piglets. Your generous contribution and dedication to enhancing our students' hands-on learning experience is truly appreciated. This unforgettable encounter will undoubtedly remain a cherished memory for years to come.
Ms Thieman's classes worked with partners to practice ordering integers.
Students completed a pipe cleaner challenge in Mrs. Molloy's science classes this week. Here are some of the winning groups!
