"Roll & Highlight: A Dice-Driven Dive into Passages"📢 Attention all! In Mrs. Black's class, students are diving deep into the passage "Let ‘Em’ Play God" using a unique approach. Working collaboratively in groups, they're rolling dice that feature a range of scaffolded questions, guiding them to thoughtfully annotate the text. This innovative method is sparking new insights and fostering deeper understanding. Way to go, students! 🎲📖

September 1, 2023 4:15 p.m. all-call: Please see below for a few updates. 1. Thank you for your cooperation and patience during our implementation of the Raptor Visitor Management System. Things have been going very smoothly. Please remember to bring your state I.D. or driver’s license with you to the school office the first time that you are signing your child out or visiting the building. Also, remember that if you have children in multiple buildings, you will need to repeat the process in each building. Again, thank you for your support. 2. The percentage of our students whose documentation is completed in FinalForms is now 93%! Please make sure that if you have not completed the forms, you do so as soon as possible. Make sure to keep your contact information (phone numbers and email addresses) current so that you don’t miss important information that is shared throughout the year. 3. Be sure to complete the free and reduced lunch form as soon as possible. Any form that was approved last school year is only good for this school year through September 30. This year, all students who qualify for a reduced-price lunch receive a free lunch! You can find the form on our website by clicking the dining tab. You will then see it on the left-hand side. We will be closed next week due to the Highland County Fair. School will resume for students on Monday, September 11. Have a good evening! 😊 #legacyofleadership #mcclaintigers

Update
Throughout this week, students delved into the intricate realm of laboratory safety while also getting a glimpse of animal outbreaks. The classes embarked on a creative journey that resulted in the formation of unique "cup cows," each possessing its own distinct identity - from traditional beef to dairy, from minecraft to football players, and even from Barbie to Ken! The outbreak journey began by teaching students with essential knowledge about safety protocols, sanitation practices, and the proper utilization of supplies. As the week progressed, the culmination of knowledge and creativity reached its peak with an imaginative project. Students crafted their own fantasy herds of grazing cattle. In this experiment, a simulated outbreak scenario unfolded, where one animal within each unique herd was afflicted by an illness. The practical exercise allowed students to witness firsthand the rapidity with which an outbreak can potentially spread if proper precautions are not diligently observed within a laboratory setting. Beyond the scientific exploration, this exercise offered students a rare opportunity to engage in the captivating process of learning about livestock sickness prevention. By actively participating in the experiment, they gained a profound appreciation for the significance of meticulous care and vigilant practices in averting the escalation of animal diseases.

Mrs. Penwell's ELA classes reviewed the story we've been working on by completing several tasks through a break-out activity. They had great discussions about their responses and found ways to work together to break each code.

This week in Mrs. Guthrie's ag classes, we learned how agriculture is connected to everything, and how even a piglet can change the world. Students started the week learning about the relevance of agriculture in their classes, with mini-lessons about their courses overall. After that, students had the opportunity to explore the diversity of food, plants, and animals within the United States. To celebrate the start of the school year, a speaker shared their story of how they can impact agriculture even with just four legs. Piglets have a significant impact on agriculture: they provide food, enrich soil, generate biogas, offer medicine and medical advances, and contribute to the sustainability of local, state, and national locations around the globe. They're an integral part of traditions, innovations, and ecological balance. Small but transformative, piglets show how agriculture's footprint changes the world. "Small snout, big ideas. Embrace your inner piglet, and change the world." * We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hurtt Show Pigs for allowing our program to showcase one of your Hampshire piglets. Your generous contribution and dedication to enhancing our students' hands-on learning experience is truly appreciated. This unforgettable encounter will undoubtedly remain a cherished memory for years to come.

Mrs. Black’s reading class engaged in an adventure as they explored the intriguing world of Edgar Allan Poe. Today, they started researching Poe’s fascinating life and works by unearthing interesting facts through a mini search session, building a solid foundation of knowledge, and broadening their literary horizons. But that's not all! After their research, students rolled up their sleeves and embarked on a "Digging Deep" journey. They rotated through stations to read and analyze “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Poe. Their mission: annotate and uncover the hidden layers of meaning within his texts.

Hello, Tiger Nation! I’m Caden Wisecup, and I’m the new Intervention Specialist for the 8th grade! I graduated from McClain High School in 2014 and received my Bachelor’s from Bowling Green State University (Talons up!). After college, I lived and worked briefly in the Grand Canyon National Park, then returned to Ohio, and spent a few years living in Columbus. My journey back home began this past year where I started as a substitute teacher in the district, ending the school year as a long term sub for 8th grade math. I am also the head coach for the MHS eSports team. My interests are all over the place, but I most enjoy reading, playing Dungeons & Dragons with my friends, attending concerts and music festivals, drinking lots of coffee, and spending quality time with my partner Madi, her son Jaxx, and my three furballs at home. Most importantly, I love seeing students succeed in the classroom. No matter how big or small the accomplishments may be, they’re all wins! I can’t express how excited I am to get back into the classroom with the students and help in any way I can to see each and every one of them shine!
